Hi, I'm Cela.

My school district had integrated classrooms, so some of my earliest friends were kids with special needs. My joy in working with my peers with special needs continued in high school where I was the president of United Sound, a club where orchestra students and students with special needs come together to learn instruments.

I completed my Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy, Bachelor of Art in Biology, Bachelor of Science in Health & Society, and Neuroscience minor at Southern Methodist University and gained experience in providing music therapy to kids, teens, and adults with special needs. After graduating, I completed my music therapy internship at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. I saw how music connected with patients with special needs in ways medical and psychological treatment did not.

This experience stuck with me, and I went on to learn about Critical Disability Studies and the experience of parents providing care to children with special needs during my master's at Vanderbilt University.

I graduated from Vanderbilt in May 2025 and am grateful to continue meaningful work with kids, teens, and adults.
