What to Expect

Assessment
Typically lasting between one to four sessions, the assessment is used to gain an understanding of you or your child’s strengths and skills as well as areas that can be supported and grown through music therapy in order to create a treatment plan.

Treatment
Once we have decided on your goals for music therapy, treatment will begin. Depending on the goal areas and needs, treatment can look like identifying and expressing emotions via songwriting, building coping skills through lyric analysis, working on fine and gross motor skills through instrument playing, increasing positive social interactions in group music therapy. Length of treatment will vary for everyone.

Completion
Music therapy can end for a variety of reasons such as completing music therapy goals and/or no longer benefiting from music therapy, moving, or unplanned circumstances. When music therapy comes to a planned end, the music therapist will support the client in phasing out the remaining sessions.
